Objectives
To unleash American energy and enhance public safety through grants to State and Tribal governments to plug orphaned oil and gas wells and to remediate and reclaim orphaned well sites on State, Tribal, and private lands, authorized by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and codified as 42 U.S.C. § 15907.
Eligible applicants
State, Federally Recognized Indian Tribal Governments, Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission.
Financial assistance range
Tribal Grants range from approximately $1M to $15M in FY23 and beyond. State Initial Grants ranged from $5M to $25M in FY22, and for FY23 and beyond they are limited to $5M. State Formula Grants range from approximately $1.6M to $50M.
